Interesting links

I’ve been collecting links to resources on local  government and public policy topics since my Planning Commission days and here are a few of my favorites.

But be forewarned, the only criterion for being listed here is that I thought there was something useful – very loosely defined – about the site.

“Big Picture” Links: these are broad policy resources rather than single topic sites.

New Rules Project: A project of the Institute for Self-Reliance.  The tag line is “Designing Rules as if Community Mattered” and the site has many case studies on everything from local economic development, environmental issues, finance, governance.

Local government commission resources for “building livable communities

Smart Growth Network

League of MN Cities: Lots of useful information (check out the Handbook for Cities) about city government, procedures, and connections to state/federal government issues affecting local government.

Government links:

Minnesota Statutes, Laws and Rules

Northfield City Code

Council agendas and packets as well as Council member contact information

City Administrator’s Weekly memo

Land Use, Planning, etc.

Comprehensive Plans: Northfield, Rice County

Form-based code resources: Northfield’s new land development regulations are somewhat “form-based”

Environment, natural resources, etc.

Minnesota Green roof council because I’m putting a green roof on part of my house.
